Exploring Dallas Without a Car - Connections by Trail and Rail

Watching cars inch down expressways—especially poignant during this year's Week Without Driving—really makes you wonder if anyone actually enjoys getting around the metroplex by car. Seems at best a boring necessity, more often than not frustrating, stress inducing, and occasionally worse. Wouldn’t it be a dream if there were a pretty bike trail right by your house and it went everywhere you needed to go? Yes, yes it would be a dream. Fortune has not smiled so brightly on us in DFW. But, is there really no lemonade to be made here? Are there any wins to be had, however modest? I mean, could you even go on a bike ride without having to get in the car first? This blog post will consider these questions. We’ll do a bit of “transit hacking,” expand our thinking, and explore what’s possible in reality.

Email City Council. Now Is Not The Time to Cut Bike Lane and Vision Zero Funding

***Update 9/17*** The proposed amendment failed! Your advocacy helped to save $400,000 in cuts to bike lane funding and the original budget proposal passed. Council has proposed amendments to cut bike lane funding and other suggestions have been made to cut Vision Zero. Email or call your council member today! And sign up to speak in person or virtually by 5pm today for tomorrow's City Council meeting (September 3). City Council takes a non-binding vote on proposed amendments at the September 3 meeting (tomorrow), but if you miss that deadline, it is still helpful to reach out for the next couple weeks until the budget is passed. Future amendments can be made up to and including the day of the final budget vote on September 17.
